It has been an interesting couple of days.
I started December kind of strong on the writing front, but a couple things conspired to de-rail my progress.
I can’t remember if I’ve posted about discovering the proximity of the Generac to the HVAC was a serious problem, and I’m a tad lazy when it comes to searching previous posts. So, if the next paragraph isn’t news… well… sorry.
The local company who sold us the Generac installed it with the exhaust somewhere around four feet from our HVAC unit with the exhaust facing said unit. When the Generac ran for any length of time, the two devices conspired to fill the house with carbon monoxide (CO). I have pictures of a CO meter showing 51 parts per million (ppm) while both the Generac and A/C were running.
In case anyone’s wondering, the “safe” concentration for CO across eight hours is 9 ppm.
Well, it took some time and a false start or two, but we finally secured an appointment with a Generac-certified dealer, and their installation crew came yesterday (Saturday, December 6th) and re-oriented the Generac, so that the exhaust no longer points toward the HVAC. They also moved it about a foot farther away. We ran both the furnace and the Generac for several minutes yesterday with no uptick in CO on the meter.
However, it was freezing or slightly below during the time they were here, and while I thought I was bundled up enough… I apparently was not. After a visit to a neighbor’s place to investigate internet issues to no result, I had a dickens of a time getting warm and ended up sleeping or dozing most of the day.
In other news…
I am very happy with my program-based Writing Log. It reduces the friction to write by quite a bit, and when I’m not trying to get warm or have other external factors affecting my interest in writing, I have found that not worrying about recording sessions in a spreadsheet makes it far easier to write.
Here’s a screen shot of my daily writing so far for December…
All of those words have gone into Vorcalix, and in addition to what I wrote previously, it is currently sitting at 13,925 words.
I want to have most of it written by the end of the month, but we’ll see how that goes.
Well… I think I’ve rambled on for long enough. If you’re reading this, thanks for sticking with me.
I hope the days treat you and yours well. Stay safe out there.
