I have ended my writing for this calendar day, and I am pleased with my progress. Regarding not just for today but for this week and during this challenge as a whole.

As I have stated on multiple occasions (at least, I think ‘multiple occasions’ qualifies), while the goal was to write 25,000 words each week of new fiction, the actual intent of the challenge was to help me build a daily writing habit.

And in that, it is being wildly successful.

With tomorrow’s writing, I will surpass the total word count for July of this year… which–at that point–was the month with the highest word count this entire year.

An unintended side effect of this challenge has been the feeling that writing gives me. Looking at my writing log inspires a sense of accomplishment in me that I haven’t felt in a while. This is awesome. Incredible. I love that I’ve found my place in this world.

I’m not certain how many of us can say that, and that right there is truly unfortunate. I cannot help but think that the world would be a lot better off if we all had the freedom–in all its forms–and the self-confidence to find our respective places in the greater world.

Knowing who I am and what matters to me is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me.

All right… enough pontificating for now. I’ll kick the soapbox back in the closet where it belongs.
