9:10am
If you’re looking back and forth between the time I wrote above and your watch or device’s clock… don’t strain your neck too much. I simply scheduled this post to “publish” at noon, instead of immediately. Why? Well, I’m also sending out a newsletter today with pretty much this same information, and one of my promises to my newsletter subscribersis that they always get the information first.
Which means on the days I send out a newsletter… any other posts will be delayed until later.
Right, then! Moving on…
Today is already a damn-fine day. At 8:15am, I finished principal composition of Tempus, the fourth title in my Primogenitor Saga. My editor can’t get to it until early June, but that’s fine. It gives me a chance to do one last read-through to make sure it is as good as I can make it before I hand it off.
I am anticipating a publication in July, but that will depend on the turn-around time with my editor. Don’t worry; I’ll keep you updated.
Tomorrow, I’ll start the read-through and resume writing Colfyr, the story that follows The Shepherd. It’s close enough that I think I can finish it by the end of the month, even while doing the final read-through on Tempus.
From there, I’m thinking I’ll hop back to Sorcerous Pursuits and write Tribunal. I kinda ended Hyperion on an anticipatory note… not a cliffhanger, per se… but definitely a hook. And I don’t want to leave people hanging for too long. Plus, it’s going to be a damn-fun story to write. I’m already looking forward to it.
But then again… I usually look forward to writing all my stories, so I’m not sure that’s much of a metric.
After Tribunal? Well… that’s far enough in advance that I kinda feel like the right answer is we’ll see when we get there. But Sorcerous Pursuits is actually the second series idea for the shared world I’ve been mentioning for a while, and I think it’s time to start on the first series. The one that gave me the idea for the shared world in the first place. I think one of my best friends will beat me about the head and shoulders if I write anything else after Tribunal, so that’s probably the wisest course anyway.
🤣
She’s been listening to me talk about that series for a couple years now, and she really, really likes dragons… so, yeah. “A tad impatient” is a bit of an understatement.
The thing is, though, Sorcerous Pursuits happens before the events of that series, so I need to write them–especially the first three–before I tackle the main series. Events in those first three books of Sorcerous Pursuits will be referenced in this series (heavily so in the second story), and I want to minimize the risk of continuity errors.
From there, I’ll probably bounce around between the shared world and Shepherd Security Services for the rest of the year. But that’s not really written in stone, being so far out in the future. I realize it’ll be here before we know it, but at the same time, I prefer to keep my planning flexible as much as I can.
I am thinking next year (2025) will be the year I write the final quintet for Drakmoor and tie off that story. It’s going to be so, so much fun, and I already have a great scene in mind that will take place in Book #4 (at least in my current thinking).
Hrmmm… let’s see. What else? Oh… I’m still working up that new Epic Fantasy. But like (I think) I said earlier, I’m going to keep that one pretty close for a while. It’s kinda fun having a whole world just for me, and I think I want to keep it that way for a little bit. Don’t worry; I will absolutely publish it so you can enjoy it, too. I’m just not going to publish it soon. If I had to guess, it’ll be 2026 when that drops. That will give me plenty of time to tie off Drakmoor without having two Epic Fantasy stories running side-by-side.
Alrighty.
I think I’ve rambled on for long enough. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for sticking with me.
I hope the days treat you and yours well.
Stay safe out there.
Can’t wait. I enjoy your stories greatly.
Many thanks, William! I absolutely enjoy writing my stories, which always makes it nice for others to enjoy reading (or listening to) them.
Best wishes to you and yours.
Regards,
Rob
You mentioned a while back you were waiting for the final book in the Nora Roberts ” The Dragon Heart Legacy” series. Did you get it and finish reading the trilogy? How was it? I’m on the fence about picking it up and wondered what you thought.
Hope your days are filled with the happy clicky clack of your keyboard.
Mark
Hi, Mark,
I did indeed get it… but I’m such a slacker that I haven’t read it yet. The first two books were really good, though. There’s a reason she’s still a bestseller after all these years. Damn fine storytelling.
My thanks, sir, and best wishes to you and yours.
Regards,
Rob
